Affiliate Disclosure
How this site is funded, in plain language — and the firewall between what pays us and what we recommend.
The short version
The Patina Benchis free to read because it is supported by affiliate links. When you click a link to a bag and buy it, we may earn a small commission — at no extra cost to you. That commission is how the site pays for itself. It does not change which bags we recommend, the order we rank them, or what we say about them.
Amazon Associates
The Patina Bench is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate program that lets sites earn fees by linking to Amazon.com. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. Amazon is our retailer, and the product links on the site are tagged Amazon links using our associate tag, t5leather-20.
If we ever add another retailer or brand program, the same rule applies: a link earns us a commission only through a program we have actually joined, and we would rather send you to the option that’s better for you — cheaper, in stock, better grade of leather — than to the one that pays us more.
How to spot the links
Our outbound buy links route through our own /golinks so the associate tag is applied consistently, then open the retailer in a new tab. They’re marked as affiliate/sponsored links, and every buy button carries an #adlabel. Prices shown next to those buttons are pulled live from the retailer and stamped with the date they were pulled; where we don’t have a live price, the button says “Check price”instead of showing a number. Prices come from the retailer and change constantly, so always confirm the current price on Amazon’s own page before buying.
Why you can trust the recommendations anyway
The reasoning behind a pick is identical whether or not a link earns us anything. We regularly recommend the cheaper bag, we tell you plainly when a bag is a coated or PU synthetic rather than real leather, and we’ll tell you when to skip a category entirely. We do not accept payment for reviews, we don’t take “sponsored” placements dressed up as editorial, and we publish no fabricated reviews or ratings. How we actually evaluate bags is documented on our methodology page, and the standards we hold ourselves to are in our editorial policy.
A note on how we form our verdicts
The Patina Bench is written by a leather-bag enthusiast and runs no test lab. We have not wear-tested the bags we compare; we compile published specs, do the cost-per-year math, and cite our sources. Our verdicts are opinions formed that way, not lab results.
