Independence from commission

We earn affiliate commissions, disclosed on our affiliate disclosurepage. Those commissions never influence a recommendation. When the bag that pays us less is the better buy, it is our pick. We do not sell reviews, rankings, or “sponsored” placements dressed up as editorial, and no brand can pay for a spot on a list.

Sourcing

Every factual claim about what a leather grade means — full-grain versus top-grain, what may legally be called “genuine leather” — is tied to a published source, cited on the page. Bag facts (grade, dimensions, weight, materials, hardware, laptop fit) are read from the manufacturer or retailer’s own listing on a dated visit. We do not assert durability on our own authority, and we do not present a brand’s marketing copy as fact.

No fabricated proof, ever

The Patina Bench contains no invented reviews, testimonials, star ratings, or “we wear-tested this” claims. We have not physically wear-tested the bags we write about, and we never imply otherwise. Product images come from the retailer; verdicts are our own analysis of the specs. This is the single line we will not cross for any layout, any partner, or any reason.

Honesty about limits

The author is a leather-bag enthusiast, not a master leatherworker, and the site runs no test lab. We say so plainly. Where a listing hides the grade, we say it is unstated rather than guess it. Where a bag is a coated or PU synthetic rather than real hide, we say so instead of letting the word “leather” do the work. Our full evaluation process is on the methodology page.

Corrections

We get things wrong sometimes, and we’d rather fix them in the open than quietly. If you find a factual error, tell us: we’ll check the claim against its source, and if you’re right, correct it and update the page’s “last updated” date. Substantive corrections to a live claim are noted rather than hidden.

Updates

Listings change, bags get discontinued, and prices move. Each article shows a “last updated” date, and prices are refreshed automatically and stamped with the date they were pulled. We re-verify our product roundups at least quarterly— confirming each pick is still sold, still the grade we described, and still the right call — and revisit our care and buying guides at least every six months to keep the guidance current.

Reader guidance

Our advice is a well-researched starting point, not a substitute for checking the retailer’s own current specs and price before you buy. For leather care, we point to conservation-grade sources and always suggest spot-testing a product on a hidden area first. Where a question is beyond general guidance — a warranty dispute, a repair — we say so rather than pretending to settle it.
